Todd Sucherman, touring drummer for STYX, has announced the production of the sequel to the award winning "Methods and Mechanics" drum DVD. I own a copy of Methods and Mechanics, and it is fantastic. There is a fair amount of technical material on the original - double bass fills, rudiments across the drum set, and so on - but the real treasure was in just watching Todd play. He also offered great advice about making a career of drumming.

Here is one of my favorite drum performances of all time from the original Methods and Mechanics DVD.

This new DVD - Methods and Mechanics II" - looks like it will emphasize the non-technical aspects of drumming - dealing with touring, loving your gig, building your career, and so on. This is really Todd's strength in the original. There are lots of DVDs about rudiments and double bass patterns, but none about the life of being a drummer. I really think that Hudson and Todd are producing something very valuable in this niche of drum instruction, filling a key missing gap in the instructional drum DVD market.

Here is the official preview for Methods and Mechanics II.

Todd is a great guy, and spends time answering questions on the DrummerWorld forum. Check it out!
