Aquiles Priester has been titled the "Best Heavy Metal Drummer in Brazil" ten years in a row by Roadie Crew Magazine - and that's no accident. The recording below has completely knocked me off of my feet. Aquiles is obviously a monster drummer, but it's the quality of the sound that catches my attention, here.

Sounds like these can only come from the highest quality equipment. Aquiles Priester's drum and cymbal set up is composed of Mapex Drums and Paiste cymbals, with DW pedals and Gibraltar hardware. The infamous "PsychOctupus" kit is remade every year from Mapex Meridian shells. He also uses a Black Panther snare on the left. The Paiste cymbals come from the Signature, Alpha, Rude, and 2002 series. Aquiles uses the DW 9000 series bass pedals and hi-hat stands. Evans drum heads are used across the kit.

What could be used to accurately capture such a beautiful instrument? The sound engineer employs Audio Technica microphones: AE 2500 – Bass Drums, ATM 35 – Rack Toms and Floor Toms, ATM 23 – Snares, AE 5100 – Ride Cymbals and Hi-Hats, AE3000 Over Heads.

More detail can be found on the Aquiles Priester web site.
